Traditional Wooden Shoe Carving Demonstration
BHC will host Luke Traver from Luke’s Lost Arts who will present the art of wooden shoemaking, explaining the process as he manually carves a pair of wooden shoes. Luke will demonstrate the carving techniques he learned as an apprentice to the late Master Shoe Carver Bob Siegel, Jr. (Sieg). He uses only three primitive hand made tools and a wood vice. His programs are enhanced with history discussions followed by a question and answer session with those in attendance.
Join us at BHC from 10:00-noon to see Luke in action, see the wooden shoe artifacts, and share any stories, pictures, or artifacts you may have about wooden shoemakers in our collective Belgian heritage.
In 2006, Luke began actively carving under Sieg’s watchful eye at area shows and festivals. In 2011 he finished a one-year apprenticeship program with Sieg that was supported by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Sieg retired from active carving in 2014 at the age of 89 leaving Luke to carry on the mission to preserve this lost art for generations.

Buddy Holly & The Music of 1957-59
Step back into the golden dawn of rock ’n’ roll with Daddy D Productions’ high-energy tribute to Buddy Holly and the unforgettable music of 1957–1959. This nostalgic, feel-good production celebrates one of the true pioneers of modern music and the short but legendary era that changed everything.
Blending authentic rockabilly sound with Daddy D’s signature harmonies, humor, and heart, the show transports audiences to the sock-hop days—when guitars twanged, skirts swirled, and every song told a story. Great Fire Remembrance at BHC
Over 150 years ago, one of the most destructive natural disasters in U.S. history tore through Northeast Wisconsin. Known as the Great Fire of 1871. Thousands of people lost everything, and many lives were lost in just hours. BHC’s annual remembrance of the Great Fire will include three presentations to recall the early days of the Belgian settlement and how the Great Fire transformed the lives of the settlers.
Presentations will start at 9:30 with Sandy (Lampereur) Orsted presenting “Belgian Life on the Door Peninsula” covering the history, challenges and successes of the Belgian settlements before and after the fire. At 10:00, Captain David Siegel of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department (retired) will explain the nature of the fire, why it was so deadly and dispel common misunderstandings about the Great Fire and recent major fires. A re-enactment of the experiences of Emmerence Gaspart Englebert, a Great Fire survivor, by her great-granddaughter, Barb Englebert Chisholm will begin at 10:45. Following the presentations, David Siegel will conduct a site visit to Tornado Park so you can see for yourself why the small settlement of Williamsonville was destroyed.
Everyone is welcome and no admission is required. We strongly encourage students (pre-teen and up) to take this opportunity to understand the land we live on, the struggles faced by those who came before us and how our ancestors endured this unimaginable tragedy.

Lynda Drews Disposable Wives
Author Lynda Drews will return to BHC on Saturday, October 17 to share the research behind her newest book “Disposable Wives”. The book centers on Jean Philippe Soquet—a man known by many names: the Bay Settlement Bruiser, the Belgian Archfiend… and, to some, a murderer. Over four decades, suspicion followed him, especially in the wake of multiple disturbing deaths and disappearances—including those of three of his wives. Determined to uncover the truth, Pauline Villiesse—sister to Soquet’s third wife—refuses to let the past be buried. With the help of Xavier Martin, she begins a relentless pursuit of justice. Set in the decades following the Civil War, this riveting true story reveals a world shaped by faith, survival, and tightly bound traditions—where secrets are protected, reputations are everything, and justice is far from guaranteed. Lynda will speak at 10:00 followed by a book signing and conversation.

'Tis the season to make jolly music!
Steve March-Tormé & Michael Bailey from Vic Ferrari have joined musical forces for a very special holiday show. “For Kids from 1 to 92” spans musical genres--featuring everything from lush and beautiful traditional fare to great pop songs and joyful rock. This show will definitely warm your heart, and it’s also exciting enough to make it beat a little faster—just the sort of feeling that the holiday season is all about! This concert will raise funds for Door County Habitat for Humanity!
A Cherry Pie Christmas
This 2025 movie, filmed entirely in Door County, follows Emma Parker, a Chicago pastry chef who returns home for Christmas, rekindles an old romance, and must choose between her dream job and saving her family’s struggling cherry orchard.
Attendees for this FREE, but ticketed screening, can also enjoy Christmas caroling, treats & samples from local Southern Door County businesses, and a fun holiday-themed trivia game preshow.

Jimmy Fortune
Whether requested by his loyal fans or heralded by fellow artists, the voice of Jimmy Fortune is one of those special instruments. His recognizable tenor has graced some of the biggest hits of Country music, earning the Virginia native a slot in both the hallowed ranks of the Country Music Hall of Fame as well as the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Joining the Statler Brothers in 1982, Fortune wrote and sang lead on many of their biggest hits! “Elizabeth,” “Too Much On My Heart,” “Forever,” and “More Than A Name On A Wall” are just a few of the Statlers’ hits that feature the Fortune name and voice. After The Statler Brothers retired on October 26, 2002, Jimmy seized the opportunity to launch a solo career to share new music with his fans. In addition to recording 4 solo albums, Jimmy has teamed up to record 3 projects with the Gaither Music Group and is also a member of a group called Brothers of the Heart.

Belgian Days
Brussels Town Park
Sponsored by the Brussels Lions Club, this annual event has been a tradition for 65 years featuring Belgian food, live music and a parade. Event also includes baseball, softball, run-walk, cornhole tournament and a cooyah tournament. All proceeds benefit the Brussels Lions Club.
Waffle Breakfast
BHC will serve breakfast including homemade waffles, Belgian trippe and beverages on Sunday, June 28 at the Belgian Heritage Center. Price is $12 for adults, $7 for ages 4-12, free for children 3 and under.
Swingin' Door Big Band
Door County’s only authentic swing band will take you on a journey back to the 1930's and 40’s. Enjoy the music of Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, and others, along with the harmonious sounds of the Company B singers performing songs made popular by the Andrew Sisters and more. Proceeds will benefit Door County charities and scholarships for area music students.
General Admission: FREE (free will offering/donations accepted at the show)
SDBA Monthly Meeting
The June meeting will be held at the Forestville (Maplewood) Town Hall at 7701 County Hwy H, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. Those attending are invited to arrive at 5:30 to view and walk the Ahnapee Trail extension, which connects the park to the state trail.
