Parks
State and County

Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay in southern Door County, has 1,200 acres of gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs. The park boasts several hiking trails and is a base for boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, SCUBA diving and water skiing on Green Bay. Recreation in every season can be found in over two miles of shoreline that provide many scenic views and recreational opportunities.

The Ahnapee State Trail is an excursion through farmland and forest, and for about 5 miles it traverses the Ahnapee River as it flows to Lake Michigan. The 44-mile trail runs from Sturgeon Bay in the north to 2 miles beyond Casco Junction in the south.  Summer months see hikers, bikers, horseback riders and horse-drawn carts and wagons, so expect a crowded ride in parts. When the snow flies cross-country skiers and snowmobilers zip along the line.  The trail runs through Forestville Dam Park, which offers restrooms, picnic tables and an opportunity to watch kayakers and fishermen enjoy the lake.

Robert La Salle Park – Provided at this park are two parking areas, toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, grills and a volleyball court. The park is characterized by its three-tiered landform consisting of the pebble-strewn Lake Michigan shore, then a level, grassy upland area, and a higher wooded upland area. Steep sandy bluffs separate each tier. Pedestrian access to the various tiers is facilitated by several stairways. A small stream cuts through an interesting sandy ravine along the southern side of the park. This park provides 440 feet of public access opportunities to Lake Michigan along the Southern Door Shoreline.

Forestville Dam â€“ Forestville Dam Park is located on approximately 79 acres of land at 475 Mill Road, Forestville. A millpond with access to the Ahnapee River and Trail is the primary attraction. Facilities include a pavilion, dock, boat launch, playground, picnic area, parking and restrooms.

Sugar Creak County Park is located at 2349 County N, along the waters of Green Bay in the Town of Gardner.  Roughly forty-acres of land, its facilities include a boat launch, picnic area, parking and restrooms.  A disc golf course was added to the park in 2012.
